Skiing for dummies (and pros) at Alpensia Ski Resort
When wintertime rolls around, one might think of skiing. Coming from the warm country of Bangladesh, skiing was obviously new to me. And although I could easily find plenty of ice skating rinks in Seoul - where I live now - the closest ski resorts are in Pyeongchang.
One of the best places to give the ski a go in Pyeongchang is the Alpensia Ski Resort. It’s got amazing facilities and even greater views. In fact, this ski resort was the main Olympic village, also hosting the ski jump, luge, bobsleigh, and cross-country skiing events.
If you’re a beginner, you can rent an instructor without spending much. Moreover, they have slopes for every difficulty level, so you can enjoy skiing without any trouble. And if skiing isn’t really your thing, you can indulge on a nice gondola ride overlooking this breathtaking winter wonderland.

If you’re a K-drama lover, then ‘Goblin - the Lonely and Great God’ needs no introduction. The scene of reconciliation between Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) and his bride (Kim Go-eun) was actually filmed in Yongpyong. Not only that, but other dramas like ‘Winter Sonata’, ‘That Winter, The Wind Blows’, and ‘My ID Is Gangnam Beauty’ have also used this beautiful resort as a film set.
The Mt. Balwagsan Cable Car is another great attraction. It’s the longest cable car line in Korea, stretching over a 7.4km course overlooking the Yongpyong Resort. There’s also a thrilling skywalk atop the summit which was recently built. Whether you’re visiting in the daytime or after dusk, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the mesmerizing views just the same.

Indulge in delicious traditional food at Korea Palace
More than a winter sports hub, Pyeongchang is a place where you may also enjoy some delicious traditional Korean food in the tranquility of nature. Korea Palace might just be the perfect place for that.
This traditionally Korean hotel is located near Mt. Balwangan’s slopes. Standing at 900 meters tall, the view it offers is truly one-of-a-kind. Another unique trait is that all the food served here is prepared with 100% mineral water from Jeju.
Korea Palace is a reproduction of a Goryeo-era palace. As it was a period in Korean history significantly marked by Buddhist tradition, it’s only natural they would include a 108-step climb, symbolizing the 108 agonies of life.
It was originally intended to serve as accommodation for former US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the 2018 Winter Olympics. As it turns out, both were unable to come. So the hotel later opened to the public, offering an array of deliciously healthy food and a singular view of its magnificent surroundings.
