Hello everyone! I will soon be returning to my country after studying in South Korea for two years and I used the postal service to send stuff back to my country. Therefore, today I will be sharing some information and firsthand experience on mailing things back to your country. Hope you find this information useful when you are in a similar situation: whether sending things back to your country after your graduation or just want to send things to another city in case you move or change cities.
The most widely used shipping service here is the Korea Post, the national courier service.
The process is quite simple. First, go to the post office where you need to fill in the shipping form as stated. Second: Prepare the item you plan to send. You can opt to pack your things from home and bring it to the post office or to bring your things and pack it at the post office using their boxes (to be purchased at the post office). You can also find the packing materials (bubble wrap and tape) there at the post office. Also, do not forget to check on the box size allowed for each mailing option before you started packing. And the last is: choosing the mailing option.

우체국에서는 배송 양식을 작성해야하는 절차가 매우 간단합니다. 집에서 짐을 싸서 우체국으로 가져 가거나, 상자 (우체국에서 구입)를 사용하여 우체국에서 포장 할 수 있습니다. 거기에서 필요한 포장재 (버블 랩 및 테이프)도 찾을 수 있습니다. 또한 포장을 시작하기 전에 각 우편 옵션에 허용되는 상자 크기를 확인하는 것을 잊지 마십시오.
There will be 3 mailing options to ship things using Korea Post:
1. Express Mail Service (EMS)
It is the most expensive mailing option but it requires only 3-4 days to ship things outside Korea (before pandemic). However, due to the pandemic, EMS now takes 2-4 weeks and can ship to 102 countries. You can also track the delivery of your package. The package prices can be estimated at https://www.epost.go.kr/main/eng/Enpost_Services3.html.
Tip: You can get a 5% discount with EMS if you register your boxes online and print out the form. When you arrive at the post office later, just give the officer your box and form.
2. Air Mail
This option is in between EMS and surface mail. Although it takes longer to ship but it is slightly cheaper than EMS.
3. Surface Mail (boat/ship)
This is the cheapest mailing option, but it also has the longest delivery time. It might take 2-3 months for shipping and can even be longer depending on the pandemic situation now. You will also have the risk of your parcels having water-damage (so make sure to wrap your things in plastic before putting them in a box if you are using this method).
Korea Post has different box sizes for shipping, sizes 1-6. The size and weight requirements vary by country and I will suggest you confirm it at your nearest post office. Most countries allow box size 5 for surface mail and size 6 for the airmail.
The pricing will differ, based on your country and the weight/sizes of your box. You can check on https://www.koreapost.go.kr/ and click on “Guidance for International Mail Services”. You will be directed to the chart of Country by Price Zone.

우체국을 이용하여 물품을 발송할 수있는 3 가지 우편 옵션이 있습니다.
1. 익스프레스 메일 서비스 (EMS)

이것은 가장 저렴한 우편 옵션이지만 배송 시간이 가장 느립니다. 배송에 2 ~ 3 개월이 소요될 수 있으며 현재 코로나 상황에 따라 더 많이 소요될 수 있습니다. 또한 소포가 물에 손상 될 위험이 있습니다 (따라서이 방법을 사용하는 경우 상자에 넣기 전에 물건을 플라스틱으로 포장하십시오).

Some important tips:
Check your box weight before shipping because the fee charged will be on the higher rounded off weight.
For international shipping, import tax will be implemented if the declared value of the packaged items exceeds a certain value depending on the country (e.g: the limit is 200MYR for Malaysia).
If you are from Malaysia/Singapore, parcel service from Qdelivery Service by Qxpress can also be considered. It provides a cheaper option and parcel tracking is also available. Please note the terms and conditions of the shipping service that you chose, to avoid any inconvenience later.
