Exploring The Romantic Chuncheon (로맨틱한 춘천)

I love spending my winters here in South Korea as I come from a really hot country in the middle east. This winter, especially was extremely cold in South Korea, thanks to the numerous snowfall that happened so many times across the country. Last week I took a flight from Busan to Seoul to visit Chuncheon city. The flight was smooth and comfortable and I reached my destination in just one hour. After reaching Gimpo airport I took the train to Chuncheon. The best thing about South Korea is its quick and efficient public transportation. I stayed at one of my friends’ home for 2 days and 1 night.

올해 겨울은 눈이 많이 내리고 정말 춥습니다. 저는 중동의 정말 더운 나라에서 왔기 때문에 항상 한국의 겨울을 좋아합니다. 지난 주에 춘천을 방문하기를 위해 부산에서 서울로 비행기를 탔습니다. 비행은 1 시간 밖에 걸리지 않아 매우 부드럽고 편안했습니다. 김포 공항에 도착한 후 기차를 타고 춘천으로 갔습니다. 한국의 가장 좋은 점은 서울 외곽 도시까지 가는 대중 교통입니다. 친구의 집에 1 박 2 일 머물렀습니다.

First day:

I walked with my friend to our first attraction Soyanggang Skywalk (소양강 스카이 워크). Although it is winter and due to Corona, everything was closed, yet we could still enjoy the beauty of the place. On our way, we passed by some signs that told us that a famous old Korean Drama “Winter Sonata” was filmed there. I heard that before Covid-19, many tourists visit this city, especially Japanese. In the same area, you can see many war statues and their information along the road which indicates how much Koreans care about their history.

After that, I saw something really interesting called “The Soyanggang Maid”. The statue was built to commemorate a famous Korean song about a young girl who died while waiting for her beloved one. There was a button to press (on the upper deck) to hear the song and imagine the whole situation. Korean government does give you all sort of vibes to feel the culture as if you truly lived during that era.

첫날:

친구와 함께 첫 명소인 소양강스카이워크에 갔습니다. 겨울과 코로나때문에 모든 것이 닫혔지만 그 장소의 아름다움을 느꼈습니다. 가는 길에 저희는 그곳에서 촬영된 유명한 한국 드라마 “겨울 연가”의 흔적을 지나쳤습니다. 코로나 이전에는 많은 관광객, 특히 일본인이 이 도시를 방문한다고 들었습니다. 같은 지역에서 길을 따라 모든 전쟁 동상과 정보 게시판을 볼 수 있으며, 이는 한국이 그들의 역사에 대해 진정으로 관심을 갖는 방법을 알려줍니다.

그 후“소양강 메이드”라는 정말 흥미로운 것을 보았습니다. 이 동상은 사랑하는 사람을 기다리다 죽은 어린 소녀에 대한 한국의 유명한 노래를 기념하기 위해 세워졌습니다. 노래를 듣고 전체 상황을 상상하기 위해 누르는 버튼이(상단 갑판에) 있습니다. 한국 정부는 그 시대에 진정으로 살았던 문화를 느낄 수 있도록 온갖 분위기를줍니다.

Second day:

Chuncheon is quite famous for its Galbi-tang (갈비탕), especially amongst the Koreans. Since I cannot eat meat I tried another delicacy, known as Sundubu-jjigae (순두부찌개) which is made from tofu. If you have never tried this dish, I recommend you try at least once. After a delicious meal, we walked around the neighbourhood to see various cafes and other shops but it was not a good time as most of them were either closed or offered only takeaway (again, as a precaution for Corona!!). Then around late afternoon I came back to Seoul and visited some beautiful cafés and pizza restaurants in Hongdae. The alluring atmosphere combined with delicious food will give you the desire to visit this city more than once. In the end, as they say, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”; all you need to do is take a step. Korea has a variety of beautiful places just waiting to be discovered.

둘째 날:

춘천은 특히 한국인들 사이에 갈비탕으로 유명하지만 고기를 못 먹어서 순두부 찌개라고하는 다른 맛있는 한국 음식을 먹었습니다. 이 요리를 한 번도 먹어 본 적이 없다면 정말 추천합니다. 우리는 카페와 다른 상점을보기 위해 동네를 걸어갔지만 불행히도 모든 것이 테이크아웃이었기 때문에 방문하기에 좋은 시간이 아니었습니다. 그런 다음 늦은 오후 서울로 돌아와 홍대의 아름다운 카페와 피자 레스토랑을 방문했습니다. 분위기와 음식은 모두 훌륭해서 한 번 이상 방문하고 싶은 욕구를 줄 것입니다. 끝에서 "천 마일의 여정은 한 걸음으로 시작됩니다".
