북촌 한옥 마을: 활기에 찬 서울의 고요한 곳
Seoul is majorly popular for its modernness with several skyscrapers or newly opened department stores. However, have you ever wondered if there is any piece of tranquility located in the heart of that metropolis? Yes, Seoul is also famous for its traditional maintenance: the Bukchon Hanok Village.
Bukchon Hanok Village is located on the north side of Cheonggyecheon stream. To get there, there are several ways but the most convenient is by subway. You can get off at the Anguk Station (Seoul Subway Line 3). Take exit 3 and head to the right. There is a large information board of Bukchon Village in the distance of 200meters from the subway exit.

북촌 한옥 마을은 청계천 북쪽에 위치합니다. 찾아가는 방법은 여러 가지가 있지만 가장 편리한 방법은 지하철입니다. 안국역 (서울 지하철 3 호선)에서 내릴 수 있습니다. 3번 출구로 나와 오른쪽으로 가세요. 지하철 출구에서 약 200m 거리에 북촌 마을 안내판이 있습니다.
During the Joseon dynasty, Bukchon was mostly a nobility's residence, and there had not been any significant alteration until the 1920s. However, due to the fact that Seoul's administrative districts were extended in the 1930s, the city's urban structure was altered into its contemporary appearance. Therefore, the current appearance of Bukchon Hanok Village is the renovated version with new materials, such as adding a glass door to the Dae Cheong (wooden-floored hall) and using galvanized iron sheets to extend the roof eaves. Nevertheless, the village still retains its tranquility and antiquity.
조선 시대에서는 북촌은 대부분 귀족들은 거주하였고 1920 년대까지 큰 변화가 없었습니다. 그러나 1930 년대에 와서 서울의 행정 구역이 확장되면서 도시구조도 근대적으로 변형되면서 변화가 일어났다. 따라서 현재 북촌 한옥 마을의 모습은 대청에 유리문을 달고, 처마에 잇대어 함석 챙을 다는 등 새로운 재료를 사용하여 개조된 모습입니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 북촌마을은 여전히 고요함과 고색창연함를 유지하고 있습니다.
Notwithstanding its historic appearance and the peaceful vibe, on visiting the village, visitors may have a lot of opportunities to experience some traditions of South Korea. The most famous activity is to rent the Hanbok and take pictures along the walking trail of Bukchon village. There are several Hanbok-renting stores on the way from the subway station to the village. The price also varies depending on the type of Hanbok and the guest’s duration time.
역사적인 모습과 평화로운 분위기에도 불구하고 방문객들은 한국의 전통 제험 활동을 경험할 수 있게 많은 기회를 제공하고 있습니다. 가장 유명한 활동은 한복을 빌려 북촌 마을 산책로를 따라 사진을 찍는 것입니다. 지하철역에서 마을로 가는 길에 한복 대여점이 많이 있습니다. 가격은 한복의 종류와 이용의 기간에 따라 다릅니다.
It will also be such a memorable moment if you have a chance to taste traditional tea in the traditional house of Korea. If you want to try that experience, do not hesitate to go to the village because there are several restaurants and cafes here serving Korean traditional tea and desserts.

Visitors may also visit some scattered museums, such as the Museum of Korean Art, Museum of Korean Embroidery, and Bukchon Traditions to name a few. From there, you can also pay a visit to the two famous palaces: Gyeongbukgung and Cheongdeokgung. In fact, visitors are encouraged to visit Bukchon village and the palace on the same day in the Hanbok because they will receive a free entrance fee for wearing traditional clothes.
방문객들은 한국 미술관, 한국 자수 박물관, 북촌 전통 관 등 흩어져 있는 박물관을 방문할 수도 있습니다. 거기에서 경북궁과 창덕궁의 두개 유명한 궁을 방문할 수도 있습니다. 사실은 같은 날에 한복을 입고 북촌 마을과 궁궐을 방문하는 것이 좋습니다. 전통 의상을 입으면 무료 입장료를 받을 수 있기 때문입니다.
