아름다운 포항
Pohang is a beautiful city that falls in North Gyeongsang, South Korea, and a main seaport in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region.
포항시는 대한민국 경상북도에 위치한 아름다운 도시이며 대구 경북 지역의 주요 항구입니다.
Since I love oceans so much I decided to visit the place and explore the city a bit. I boarded the bus to Pohang from Sasang station in Busan. Amidst lush green fields that gave way to intermittent towns and views of mountains covered with evergreen trees, the bus journey was an adventure for eyes, and I did not realize the two hours passing by. I reached the Pohang bus stand from where my friend picked me up. After a nice lunch, I went out exploring.
저는 바다를 워낙 좋아해서 이 도시로 찾아 탐방하기로 결정했습니다. 부산 사상역에서 포항 행 버스를 탔습니다. 버스를 타면서 간헐적인 마을과 아름다운 녹색 산 가운데 푸른 들판으로 눈이 힐링되며 두 시간이 지나는 것도 인식하지 못했습니다. 저의 친구가 저를 마중하러 나간 포항 버스 터미널에 도착했습니다. 그 다음에 맛있는 점심을 먹고 나가서 구경하기를 시작했습니다.
First, I visited a warship that retired in 2009. It is a Pohang-class corvette that the Republic of Korean Navy implemented. It was decommissioned in 2009, and it now serves as a museum ship. It was a freaking fantastic experience to walk through this battleship. I mean, for a person who has never set foot on a ship before, it was a huge deal. Especially looking at the internal structure of the ships, such as the engine room, the control room, the place where all the sailors slept, etc., it was so fascinating and a unique experience.
After that, I planned to reach Homigot, but on the way, I chose to spend some time at the statue of a nine-headed dragon. It was a nice place, and since it was near the coast, there were a few lighthouses and lots of fishing vessels. The sky, infused with the yellowish light with clouds streaked across it was looking surreal. It was so beautiful: a glorious ending to a tiring day.
먼저 2009년 퇴역한 군함을 방문했습니다. 대한민국 해군들이 그 군함을 만들었습니다. 2009년에 그만 사용되었으며 현재 체험관 역할로 사용하고 있습니다. 이 포항함을 한바퀴 구경하는 것은 놀라운 경험이었습니다. 배를 타본 적이 없는 저에게는 대단한 일이었습니다. 특히 체험관 내부 구조는 기관조정실, 컨트롤실, 해군들이 자는 데 등등 돌려볼 수 있어 너무나 매혹적이고 독특한 경험이었습니다.
그 후에 호미곶으로 갈 계획이었지만 가다가 아홉 마리의 용 조각상이 반갑게 시간이 보내기로 했습니다. 좋은 곳이었고 해안 근처에 있기 때문에 등대도 몇 개 있고 어선도 많았습니다. 푸른 하늘에 뜬 그름과 함께 어울려 노란빛으로 초현실이었습니다. 매우 아름다웠습니다. 피곤한 하루를 그렇게 빛나게 마무리했습니다.
I planned to spend the night at the Homigot square with a friend, stay awake the whole night, and then watch the sunrise. We reached the place around 8 pm and thought we would spend the next few hours talking, munching, napping a bit, and then we would get to watch the famous sunrise. There is a lighthouse museum, an outdoor display with some history/mythical story, a sea life museum, etc., nearby but it was already night so we could not enjoy any of that. We ate Korean traditional food for our dinner, a type of pancake, “Pajeon” which is made of flour, consists of green onions, octopus, squids, crab, etc and is then fried in oil; Korean version of the pancake. And it was super delicious! We decided to settle in front of the ocean for the night and wait till dawn but what we had not anticipated was how cold it would get. By 3 am, my bones had been chilled to the core, and I was desperately clinging to every fabric we had brought along, like shawls and light jackets. Honestly, we had wrapped ourselves in the plastic seating mat that we were carrying at one point. It was September, but it felt as if it was the middle of December.
친구와 함께 호미곶 광장에서 밤을 보내고 밤새 하고 일출을 볼 계획이었습니다. 우리는 오후 8 시경에 도착한 후 몇 시간 동안 이야기하고, 간식도 같이 먹고, 눈도 잠깐 감고 일어나서 유명한 일출을 보게 될 것이라고 생각했습니다. 근처에 등대 박물관, 역사, 신화를 담은 야외 전시관, 해양 생물 전시관 등이 있는데 벌써 밤이어서 그 곳들을 즐길 수 없었습니다. 저희 저녁에는 한국의 전통 음식 인 '파전'을 밀가루와 파, 문어, 오징어, 게 등으로 기름에 부쳐 먹었습니다. 한국 버전의 기본적인 팬케이크입니다. 정말 맛있었습니다. 우리는 밤 동안 해변 앞에 계속 있어 새벽까지 기다리기로 결정했지만 저희가 예상 못한 정도로 추웠습니다. 새벽 3시가 되자 정말 뼈에 사무칠 정도로 추워졌고 목도리와 얇은 자켓과 함께 우리가 가져온 모든 천에 필사적 달라붙었습니다. 솔직히 얘기하면 우리가 가지고 다니던 플라스틱 좌석 매트에 몸을 감쌌던 때도 있었습니다.9 월이었는데 마치 12 월 중순인 것 같았습니다.
We were counting minutes till the sun came up. We somehow managed not to freeze out there in the open by pulling and wrapping every piece of fabric we had. Honestly, we had wrapped ourselves in the plastic seating mat that we were carrying at one point. By 4:30 am, we got up, left the wide-open ocean, and took shelter behind the buildings, but still, the merciless winds hounded us. Dozing a bit while the cold winds howled at our ears and shivering to keep our core temperatures up, the sky was tinged with red light. Dawn was almost upon us.

솔직히 얘기하면 우리가 가지고 다니던 플라스틱 좌석 매트에 몸을 감쌌던 때도 있었습니다.
새벽 4시 30분까지 우리는 그 넓은 바다를 떠나 도망치고 높은 건물 뒤에 숨었는데도 여전히 강한 바람을 피할 수 없었습니다. 차가운 바람이 계속 불음에 불구하고 몸 온도를 올리도록 저희는 떨리면서 졸다가 하늘은 붉은 빛으로 물들었습니다. 새벽이 거의 다가왔다.
The much-awaited sun finally agreed to grace us with his presence, and we were left mesmerized. While standing there and gazing at the sun coming up, inch by inch, the view took out all the frustration. It was beautiful beyond words! My knees were shivering, and I am sure that all the 206 bones of my body had been chilled to the core. And yet, after so much anticipation, when the sun finally came up, all the trouble and the cold was worth it. After gazing at it for a long time and clicking innumerable pictures, my friend and I took the bus back to the city. Also, this place is quite famous on new year’s eve as people flock here in huge numbers to see the first sunrise of the year.
기다림 끝에 드디어 해를 아름답게 나타났으며 우리는 그의 아름다움에 빠졌습니다. 거기에 서서 조금씩 떠오르는 태양을 바라보는 데 모든 좌절감을 해소되었습니다. 말로 표현 못할 정도로 아름다웠습니다. 무릎이 떨렸고 몸의 뼈 206 개가 모두 차가워졌다고 확신합니다. 그러나 큰 기대 끝에 드디어 해가 뜰 때 모든 문제 또는 차가움을 다 참을 만했습니다. 오랫동안 바라보며 셀 수없이 많은 사진을 찍은 후 나와 친구는 버스를 타고 시내로 돌아갔습니다. 또한 이곳은 새해 첫날 일출을 보는 것으로 유명하기 때문에 많은 사람들이 이곳에 모여 새해를 맞이했습니다.
In the evening, I roamed around the beautiful POSTECH campus, which is huge, to say the least, and then finished the day lazing at Yeongildae Beach. Oceans make me super happy, as you all know, so yeah, beach time was fabulous. Eating dinner, right there, at the beach: fried chicken and coke is a memory that I am always going to cherish.
저녁에는 크고 아름다운 포스텍 캠퍼스를 돌아다니며 영일대 해변에서 하루를 마쳤습니다. 여러분 모두 알다시피 바다는 저를 매우 행복하게 합니다. 그래, 해변에서 있는 시간들은 기막히게 좋았습니다. 해변에서 바로 저녁을 프라이드 치킨과 콜라로 먹는 것은 내가 늘 원하는 추억이었습니다.
The last day was reserved for hiking. I went to Bogyeongsa Temple and hiked to watch the twelve waterfalls present there. The trail is amazing and beautiful sights keep you company the whole way. If you visit Pohang, devote one day to this. If not for the scenic views, then for the long, tiring, yet satisfying trail. I came back tired but with a bunch of unforgettable memories.
마지막 날은 하이킹을 위한 날이었습니다. 우리는 보경사에 가서 그곳에 있는 12 개의 폭포를 보기 위해 하이킹을 했습니다. 놀랍고 아름다운 경치를 갖고 있는 트레일은 여러분과 함께 동행합니다. 포항을 방문한다면 하루를 시간을 내서 즐겨보십시오. 좋은 경치가 아니라면 길고 힘들지만 만족스러움을 시켜주는 트레일입니다. 우리는 조금 힘듦과 같이 돌아왔지만 아름다운 추억으로 남겼습니다.
Pohang is a beautiful small city with tasty seafood cuisine and gorgeous beaches. Do explore it if you ever get a chance.
